PURPOSE: To manufacture a substrate for a thin display device of low cost and high reliability with the use of a subtractive method for forming a partition wall directly on the surface of a floating glass substrate. CONSTITUTION: The manufacturing method of the substrate for the thin display device selects a bottom face of a back-face floating glass substrate 27, forms a plurality of grooves on the bottom face by the subtractive method, and a partition wall 28 made of protruded parts remaining between the grooves is formed.
