<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device by which excellent reflection-proof effect can be obtained and a liquid crystal display device that is superior in perceptivity. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting device 10 comprises a light source 13 and a light guide plate 12 which introduces the light from the light source from the side end face and emits the light spreading inside from the outgoing face 12b, and a reflection-proof layer in which minute concave or convex parts of submicron order are formed in a row is provided at the outgoing face 12b of the light guide plate 12. The above concave and convex parts have a first slope part which extends from the base part of the concave or convex parts along the light guide direction of the light guide plate toward the top point and a second slope part which continues on the above light guide direction of the first slope part.
