PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly control multiple injection when using emulsified fuel.

SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine using the emulsified fuel containing water, multiple injection is performed where the emulsified fuel less than that in main injection is injected several times in a compression stroke before a main injection timing. A fuel content showing the rate of the amount of a fuel component in the emulsified fuel to the amount of the emulsified fuel is calculated. The multiple injection is controlled in accordance with the fuel content.
