PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which luminance in an arbitrarily inclined direction at an arbitrary inclined angle is made higher than luminance in other directions with the normal line of a display surface as reference. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device satisfies following conditions (a)-(d). The device has a surface light emitting element 1 and a liquid crystal panel 2 (a). The surface light emitting element 1 emits light in such a way that luminance in an arbitrarily set direction (represented as the first direction) on the light emitting surface 11 side is higher than luminance in any other direction (b). The light emitting surface 11 of the surface light source element 1 and a non-displaying surface 21 of a liquid crystal panel 2 are arranged opposite to each other (c). The surface light emitting element 1 and the liquid crystal panel 2 are arranged in such a way that a light emitting direction of the surface light emitting element 1 and the normal of the liquid crystal panel 2 almost do not coincide with each other (d).
