PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and surely place a thread on a thread guide of a needle bar after placing the thread in an eye of a sewing needle. SOLUTION: This thread guide device is eqipped with a movable member 121 which is provided slidably to a head part, a turning arm 122 which is pivotally attached to the movable member 121, and a hook member 123 which has a thread guide hook 123a, is rockable between a stand by location wherein the hook member 123 is pivotally attached to the movable member 121, and a needle thread 11 is not placed on the thread guide hook 123a, and an operating location wherein the needle thread 11 can be placed, and is operably associated and connected with the turning arm 122. Then, a thread guide mechanism is constituted in such a manner that by applying an operating force to the turning arm 122, a first rocking for switching the hook member 123 from the standby location to the operating location, a sliding movement wherein the hook member 123 being switched to the operation location and the turning arm 122 are slid together with the movable member 121, and the needle thread 11 is placed on a first needle guide, and a second rocking for returning-rocking the hook member 123 to the standby location after the thread placing are performed.
