PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission in which a reduction in the weight can be achieved without deteriorating fuel consumption. SOLUTION: A deceleration planetary gear G1, a second clutch C2, a first clutch C1, and a speed change planetary gear GT are arranged in turn from an input shaft 52 side. Also, an engagement capacity of the first clutch C1 and the second clutch C2 are increased by increasing an area of a piston without making the outer diameter dimension of a device case 50 larger by making the inner diameter of the piston smaller since the inner diameter parts of the pistons of the first clutch C1 and the second clutch C2 are engaged with the outer periphery of a first intermediate rotary shaft 56 which is axially off-set against a boss part of a center support 70.
