PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image detector having a good operability with editing functions and affinity. SOLUTION: An image reproduction system composed of an MPEG video decoder 23, a post image signal processor circuit 24, a composer 26 and an NTSC encoder 27 is set up to reproduce image data recorded on a recording medium 18. When a chapter mark key on a remote controller 150 is pushed down, a CPU 40 acquires information for identifying an image to be reproduced and displayed and records the information on the recording medium 18. A still image generator circuit 25 displays a reduced still image with the chapter-marked image used as a reference, etc. to identify the target image and reproduce or edit, using this picture as a reference.
