PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an EL element of which patterning of an organic El layer is easy and influence of a photo-catalyst is small. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the electroluminescent (EL) element is composed of a process of preparing an electrode layer, and forming a layer to be decomposed/removed which is decomposed and removed by the act of photocatalyst caused by an energy irradiation, of which contact angle to a liquid is different from that of the electrode layer or an electric charge injection and transportation layer, on the electrode layer or on an electric charge injection and transportation layer; a process of forming the layer to be decomposed/removed into a pattern-shape by irradiating energy with a pattern from a prescribed direction so that the energy is irradiated to the area where the layer to be decomposed and removed is decomposed and removed, after arranging a photocatalyst treating layer, containing photocatalyst formed on a photocatalyst treating substrate, and the layer to be decomposed/removed at every space of 200μm; a process of removing the photocatalyst layer from the layer to be decomposed/removed; and a process of forming an organic EL layer on the electrode layer or on the layer to be decomposed/removed corresponding to the pattern of the layer to be decomposed/removed.
