PURPOSE: An automatic cutter for an optical fiber is provided to facilitate optical fiber cutting work of forming a mirror surface on a cutting plane of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: An automatic cutter for an optical fiber(1) comprises a body(3) clamping the optical fiber on an X-Y plane and forming a slide groove(5) on the side; a slider(7) mounted to the slide groove, to rectilinearly reciprocate in a direction orthogonal to an optical axis of the optical fiber; a slide control unit stretched over the body and the slider, to enable scratch of the optical fiber by controlling the forward and backward movements(a,b) and enable the setting of the optical fiber by maintaining the backward moving state of the slider; a knife(27) mounted to the slider with the slider control unit, to scratch the outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber according to the movement of the slider; a pushing unit cutting the scratch portion of the optical fiber while operating in a Z-axis direction on the optical fiber scratched by the knife; a cover(19) mounted on a side of the body by hinges, to control the lifting of the pushing unit through interlock with the forward and backward movements of the slider and control the forward and backward movements of the slider while clamping one side of the optical fiber; an auxiliary cover(39) mounted on the other side of the body, to clamp the other side of the optical fiber while opening and shutting through interlock with the cover; and a cover-connecting unit to make the auxiliary cover interlocked with the operation of the cover.
