The roof has an opening in its surface, a cover (14) and a device for moving the cover between closed, ventilation and open positions. In the open position the cover is pushed back above the surface of the roof over part of its length and supported at the rear by a lever (28) guided in a rail (26) under the surface of the roof. The supporting lever and guide rail are arranged essentially centrally looking in the transverse direction of the roof.
