A cooling system for a diesel engine 10 comprises a coolant circuit 12 adapted to operatively engage a coolant inlet 14 and coolant outlet 16 of the engine 10, a pump 42, a radiator 62, an oil cooler 48, a heater 36 and a valve 20. The valve has a first port 18 adapted to receive coolant from the engine 10, a second valve port 52 for selectively receiving coolant from the oil cooler 48, a third valve port 54 for selectively routing coolant to the radiator 62 and a fourth valve port 26 for selectively routing coolant to the heater 36, the valve being controllable to selectively control the routing of the coolant through the valve ports 18,26,52,54. The valve 20 is controlled by an electronic control module 76. The cooling system may further comprise a degas bottle 58 located between the third valve port 54 and the pump 42 and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler 22 located between the coolant outlet 16 of the engine and the pump 42. The pump 42 may be driven by an electric motor 78 and controlled by the control module 76. There may be provided a plurality of sensors linked to the control module 76 to detect the operating conditions of the engine 10 for adjustment of the valve 20. |
