The fastening system comprises two shoes (10, 20) connected by long bolts (30, 31) that pass across the face (6) of a metal girder (5) and hold a cantilever bracket (1) onto it by pressing against upper and lower bracket flanges (3). The long bolts have threaded ends (33, 34) to receive nuts (35) that are turned to tighten the shoes and increase the pressure on the two flanges. In variants of the design the two long bolts can be joined together at one end and bent to form one of the shoes, or a single long bolt can be used, passing through holes in the bracket instead of over its flanges.
