PURPOSE: A multicast switching apparatus by the duplication of an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) input cell and a method therefor are provided to conveniently route a cell in a network and offer a multicast service by directly mapping one bit to one node in a cell routing field. CONSTITUTION: A cell receiving interface unit(310) stores a cell received from each node in a queue allocated according to each node. A receiving cell control unit(320) analyzes cells stored in the cell receiving interface(310), confirms a destination node, and stores the corresponding cell in an empty cell buffer. The receiving cell control unit(320) stores an address of the cell buffer in a temporal schedule queue assigned according to the node, and transmits destination node number information. A cell buffer unit(330) has a plurality of cell buffers for temporarily storing the cells in the receiving cell control unit(320). A scheduler unit(360) judges the transmission number of the cells stored in the cell buffers according to destination node number information, and provides each destination node information according to the transmission number of the cell stored in the corresponding cell buffer. A transmission cell control unit(340) receives address information of the cell buffer and destination node information from the scheduler unit(360), loads the cell of the corresponding cell buffer, and stores the cell in a temporary buffer assigned to each node.
