The method involves increasing a control signal to the piezoelectric actuator for operating an injector by a defined factor (115) during a cold starting phase for the internal combustion engine. The control signal can be increased for the first engine start-up or after a current drop-out and/or the loss of a stored adaptation value in a controller supplying the piezoelectric actuator with a control signal. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a controller for an internal combustion engine (b) and a computer program for a controller for implementing the inventive method.
