PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accelerative/decelerative shock reducing device capable of enhancing the drivability while accelerative/decelerative shocks are reduced by setting optimumly the engine control characteristics in accordance with dispersion in the backlash amounts of the vehicle drive systems from vehicle to vehicle. SOLUTION: The accelerative/decelerative shock reducing device is equipped with a drive system backlash amount measuring means to measure the backlash amount of the drive system of each vehicle and a control characteristics selecting means which selects the engine control characteristics corresponding to the measured backlash amount and emits them to an engine control device. That is, the backlash amount of the drive system is measured for each vehicle completed in a factory, and the engine characteristics to suit optimally the measured backlash amount are selected and stored in the engine control device, and thereby the drivability can be enhanced by eliminating the coasting sense in association with a deterioration of the accelerating response and/or a decelerative delay while the accelerative/decelerative shocks are reduced optimally.
