PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner having a cleaner body the front part of which does not need a projected section and which permits a dust collection container to be hooked, without any possibility of being damaged and of spoiling the appearance with increase in size. SOLUTION: The cleaner body 1 is equipped detachably with a dust collection container 4, a lid body 6 which is supported rotatively with respect to the cleaner body 1 covers the top of the dust collection container 4, while detachably engaged with the dust collection container 4. On the lid body 6 side, a first engaging member (clamp 46) is provided which has a release operation part 49 for engaging with a locking part formed on the dust container 4 side and for releasing a locked condition. On the dust container equipping part side of the cleaner body 1, a second engaging member (approximately C-shaped clamp 52) is provided which is turned upon contact with the bottom part of the dust collection container 4 when the dust collection container 4 and is engaged with a locking part 51 formed on the dust collection container 4 side.
