The invention relates to the glass and ceramic industry and can be used for producing coloured glass or ceramics provided with improved colour uniformity. The inventive method for producing coloured glass consists in treating silica with alkali liquor, prior to preparing a batch for glass melting, and in heating said silica at a temperature equal to or higher than 560 DEG C until a colour-containing film is formed, the required quantity of non-organic dye agent or agents being predissolved in said liquor. Said method makes it possible to produce glass with improved colour uniformity, improve the process repeatability, reduce the maximum glass melting temperature, increase a specific volume of molten glass and to substitute sodium carbonate, potash and dye agent in the batch by a cheaper and processable silica-sodium-potassium complex of dye raw materials
