<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent external force orthogonal to a discharge direction from being applied onto an ejected sheet, and to accurately sort the sheets on an ejected sheet tray. <P>SOLUTION: When a conveying interval L for a recording paper sheet is shorter than a prescribed value La, delay control is conducted to reduce the sheet number for image formation per unit time when a load amount of the recording paper sheets on an ejected sheet tray 170b exceeds a prescribed amount (s6, s7), and returning motion start timing of a separator 1 is delayed by 300 msec (s5). The sheet number for the image formation per unit time is brought into a usual condition when the load amount of the recording paper sheets is the prescribed amount or less, and the returning motion start timing of a separator 1 is delayed by 200msec or 250msec in response to whether the conveying interval L for the recording paper sheet is shorter than a prescribed value Lb or not (s10, s11).
