PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having superior response speed, without rubbing a substrate on which an active matrix structure is formed. SOLUTION: The display device comprises an alignment film 24 formed on a substrate 14, a liquid crystal layer 16 and a electrode 22, the alignment film 24, includes a plurality of long first alignment regions 24V to substantially vertically orient liquid crystal molecules to a substrate face and a plurality of long second alignment regions 24H, to arrange the liquid crystal molecules to be substantially parallel to the substrate face, the first regions 24V and second regions 24H are arranged alternately, and parts of liquid crystals placed on the first alignment regions 24V and second alignment regions 24H are oriented successively.
