PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an effective structural member jointly having a function as a brace having excellent buckling strength and a function as a damper having excellent damping performance. SOLUTION: A brace damper is composed of a brace body 1 consisting of a band plate-shaped flat steel plate, in which both ends are fixed onto a building, and a constraining member 2 constraining the deformation of the brace body and preventing an out-of-plane buckling and an in-plane buckling. A yield section 1a in which a width size is made smaller than both end sections is formed at the fixed place of the brace body 1. The constraining member 2 is composed of a pair of out-of-plane stiffening materials 4 holding the brace body from both surface sides and constraining the out-of-plane deformation of the brace body and in-plane stiffening materials 5 being installed on both sides of the yield section and constraining a deformation in the cross direction of the brace body. The allowable stress of a steel material used for the brace body is set at a value lower than that used as a main structural member for the building. Cut T-steel or channel steel is used as the out-of-plane stiffening material 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
