The invention relates to a dynamoelectric generator (11), the inside of which is cooled by means of a closed gas circuit, particularly an air circuit (12, 12'), that is connected to an external cooling water circuit (17a, 17b) via generator coolers (13, , 16), said coolers (13, ..., 16) being disposed inside the generator (11). A device (19) for re-cooling the heated cooling water is arranged between the outlet and the inlet of the generator coolers (13, ..., 16) within the cooling water circuit (17a, 17b). The terminal power of such a generator is significantly increased with little effort by placing a cold-generating refrigerating unit (20) between the re-cooling device (19) and the inlet of the generator coolers (13, , 16) inside the cooling water circuit (17 a, b), said refrigerating unit (20) removing additional heat from the cooling water prior to the entry thereof into the generator coolers (13, , 16).
