<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of heat generation caused by light absorption in a polarizing means of a liquid crystal light valve in a projection display device. <P>SOLUTION: The projection display device is provided with a light source, a light valve for modulating light from the light source, and a projection optical means for projecting light modulated by the light valve, and the light valve has a liquid crystal panel and the polarizing means arranged on the light source side of the liquid crystal panel, and the polarizing means comprises a film having a multilayered structure which mainly transmits light having one axis of polarization and mainly reflects light of the other axis of polarization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
