PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for assimilating methane after recovering a low-concentration methane in the environment. SOLUTION: The method for assimilating methane comprises culturing methane-assimilative bacteria in an ambience≤6,000ppm in methane concentration to assimilate the methane in the environment by the action of the bacteria. For example, there may be methane in a concentration of about several ppm in a compost barn, being methane derived from animal digestive tracts or excreta in a concentration of about 10-100ppm in a livestock barn. By this method, the above methane can be assimilated effectively. The microbial cells thus obtained can be utilized as livestock feed or microbial cell biomass. Further, in view of the fact that methane contributes to global warming, a low-concentration methane as a gas leading to the global warming can be eliminated efficiently by this method.
