PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of transmitting / receiving voice and image data in real time. SOLUTION: The communication system includes: a display apparatus 1 for displaying data and graphics; an arithmetic processing apparatus 2 that converts received information of characters and graphics by an input auxiliary apparatus 3, 4 connected to the display apparatus 1 into data A displayed on the apparatus 1 and into data B capable of being processed by a data multiplexer 7; a voice input output apparatus 5 for inputting and outputting voice data; and a voice CODEC section 6 for converting the voice data received by the voice input output apparatus 5 into voice data C capable of being processed by the arithmetic processing apparatus 2. The data multiplexer 7 has functions of multiplexing the voice data C with the data B, transmitting the multiplexed data to a communication opposite party through a modem and an analog channel and also receiving the signal similarly multiplexed and demultiplexing the signal into the data B and the voice data C, and the arithmetic processing apparatus has a function of separately making digital communication with a communication opposite party having the same facility via a digital communication network.
