The profiled body (10) has three or more ancillary segments (30,40,50,60) carried rotatably at right angles to flow, each on the respectively forward segment, rotation being limited by endstops on each segment on both pressure and suction sides. Thus the endstop for segment (30) has bearing faces (34a,b) on segment (20) and bearing faces (24a,b) on the adjoining segment (20). This limited angle of turn increases steadily to the far end segment (70), here forming the rudder segment. The segments are arranged to give an uplift between minimum and maximum uplifts greater than 6. The main segment has a fixed nose on the suction side and adjoining segments bear on one another via springs (23,33,43,53,63) used to turn the trailing segment to the pressure side relative the leading segment in each case. These suction side springs are calculated to compensate for the segment uplift when the segment reaches its suction side limit.
