PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a cosmetic which comprises dextran and/or a dextran derivative and has no greasiness, excellent compatibility with the skin and improved usability. SOLUTION: In the cosmetic containing water and a moisture retaining component but substantially not a surfactant, the cosmetic contains dextran and/or the dextran derivative. A widely used humectant in general may be utilized as the humectant. Concretely, a polyhydric alcohol such as concentrated glycerol, diglycerol, propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, 1, 3-butylene glycol, 1, 2-pentainediol, a sugar alcohol such as sorbitol, maltitol, xylitol, erythritol, a monosaccharide, a polysaccharide, may be cited.
