1,044,931. Outboard drives. A.B. VOLVO PENTA. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No. 5282/65. Heading B7V. In a propeller drive mechanism for boats equipped with an inboard motor, the intermediate shaft 6 intersects the axis of the propeller shaft 16 in the plane of the pitch circle of the gear-wheel 18 on the propeller shaft. The torque which would tend to turn the propeller shaft housing 7 in a lateral direction so that the boat steers a curved course is then eliminated. As in practice, it is not necessary to eliminate the torque completely, an angle of inclination between the propeller shaft and the intermediate shaft of from 110 to 130 degrees is acceptable. |
