Removal of heavy metals from industrial effluent, by heating with elementary sulfur and filtering insoluble metal sulfides after cooling

A mixture of elementary sulfur and effluent is heated to a temperature above the melting point of sulfur and after cooling the insoluble metal sulfides and sulfur are separated by filtration. A method for removing heavy metal compounds from industrial effluent comprises mixing the effluent with finely distributed elementary sulfur, heating to a temperature above the melting point of sulfur over a period of at least 10 minutes and filtering the insoluble metal sulfides and sulfur after cooling.
