PURPOSE: A method for backup and recovery of a flash memory for a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) is provided to minimize a memory capacity for storing a ROM image when the backup is executed in several times. CONSTITUTION: An image of the backup flash memory is extracted/stored in the second image buffer(S201). The highest version of an image version memory is read from the previously stored image and is stored, and an access location of the image version memory is initialized(S203). The image stored in the initialized access location is decompressed/stored in the first image buffer(S204). A difference between the images stored in the first and the second image buffer is found out, and a result is stored in the second image buffer(S205). It is judged that the access location of the image stored in the first image buffer is the highest version(S206). In case of the highest version, the image of the second image buffer is stored in a result buffer(S208). The data stored in the result buffer is compressed and the highest version is updated(S210). The image is stored in the location of the highest version of the flash memory image stored in the memory(S211).
