PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the existence or not of evaporating fuel to be introduced from a fuel tank directly into an intake passage for an engine during purging treatment. SOLUTION: The evaporating fuel treatment device for the engine comprises a canister 1 for adsorbing part of the evaporating fuel produced in the fuel tank, a canister model formed with an adsorption amount arithmetic expression and a desorption amount arithmetic expression, and a means 21 for correcting the injection amount of the fuel in accordance with the desorption amount of the fuel computed by using the canister model. A means 21 is provided for determining the existence or not of a passing fuel out of the evaporating fuel produced in the fuel tank, introduced directly into the intake passage without being adsorbed by the canister 1. The determining means determines the existence of the passing fuel when a correction coefficientαcorresponding to a difference between a target air-fuel ratio and an actual air-fuel ratio in the idling condition of the engine is smaller than a preset value.
