<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing device capable of recording information under an optimum recording condition at all times even in the case of performing high-speed recording and in the case of using a disk with a small margin, and to provide an information recording method. <P>SOLUTION: An information recorder records the information by irradiating a recording medium such as a DVD-RW with a laser beam and forming a recording mark on the disk. A control means performs test recording of prescribed test recording data on the recording medium prior to actual recording. In the test recording, recording pulse signals are generated on the basis of recording data, a light source is driven by them and the data are recorded. In the test recording, recording is performed while changing the level of a cooling pulse in the recording pulse signals. Then, reproduction signals are generated by reproducing the test recording data, the waveform of the reproduction signals is evaluated and a cooling level at which a target asymmetry value is obtained is set as an optimum cooling level. Thus, the succeeding actual recording is performed according to the optimum cooling level decided corresponding to the characteristics of the recording medium being the object of actual recording. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
