PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a VA system nearly free from feeling that color tones are changed even in different viewing angles. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device 50 of the VA system, a liquid crystal layer 16 or a display plate comprising the liquid crystal layer 16 is adjusted so that when a liquid crystal is irradiated with light of a backlight from the rear surface of a display surface while voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, the difference between the wavelength of the spectral peak of transmission light and the wavelength of the spectral peak of a relative luminous efficiency curve when observation is performed from the direction vertical to the display surface and the difference between the wavelength of the spectral peak of transmission light and the wavelength of the spectral peak of a relative luminous efficiency curve when observation is performed from the maximum visual field angle direction which is previously set are nearly equal to each other.
