PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passage shutting device to shut a gas passage 10 in the event of abnormal overheating, capable of being embodied in a simple structure and assuring a less pressure loss. SOLUTION: The passage shutting device is composed of a plate-form valve 2 having such a size and shape as capable of shutting the gas passage 10, an energizing means 3 to energize at all times the plate-form valve 2 in the direction of shutting the passage, and a holding member 1 capable of holding the valve 2 in the passage opened condition in which the stem of the valve 2 is rotated approximately 90 degs. with respect to the passage direction of the valve 2 against the energizing force of the means 3, wherein the holding member 1 is formed from a material capable of thermal deformation.
