PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for building structure whose mechanical property of an as-quenched state after being subjected to thickening work is hardly different from the mechanical property before being thickened. SOLUTION: The steel for building structure has been subjected to the thickening work, and a metallurgical structure of thickened part is mainly bainite structure, and an average diameter of that bainite packet is not more than 250μm. And the steel for building structure has been subjected to the thickening work, and a metallurgical structure of the thickened part is mainly bainite structure, and an average hardness of that thickened part is≥120 and≤350 Hv.
