PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low thermal expansion aluminum alloy which can be used for sand mold casting of automobile components, such as a differential carrier. SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy contains 11 to 12 mass% Si, 2.0 to 3.0 mass% Cu, 0.3 to 1.0 mass% Mg, 0.5 to 5.0 mass% Ni, 0.05 to 0.20 mass% Ti,≤0.2 mass% Fe,≤0.15 mass% Mn,≤0.15 mass% Zn and the balance consisting essentially of aluminum.
