PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a user able to be notified that the number of emission times of an Xe lamp becomes near the durability without lowering the quantity of a fixing light of the Xe lamp even when a defective emission of the light has occurred on the Xe lamp. SOLUTION: It is detected whether or not the Xe lamp emits the light within a miss-shot judgment time period Tms. When the Xe lamp does not emit the light within the time period Tms, the number of times of defective emission is counted by a mis-shot counter, and then a plurality of times of recovery emission are performed until the Xe lamp emits the light. When the number Ms of times of defective emission with respect to one time of emission reaches a fixing impossible judgment value J, it is judged that the number of times of emission reaches the durability, and then printing is stopped and warning that the life of the lamp is close to end. When the fixing is completed by the recovery emission, the total number of times Mst of defective emission is compared with a lamp life judgment value K. When the number of times Mst of defective emission is greater than the lamp life judgment value K, it is judged that the number of times of emission of the Xe lamp is near the durability, and then warning of the life of the lamp is made.
