PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile information terminal the operability of which for a user is enhanced. SOLUTION: The mobile information terminal (10) includes: a telescopic antenna (1) having a tip (21) placed at the outside of the enclosure; and a switch section (14). The switch section (14) is housed in the enclosure and provided to part of the antenna (1). The switch section (14) generates operation information denoting an operation applied to the tip (21) on the basis of the operation. The operation of the mobile information terminal (10) is controlled on the basis of the operation information. Since the switch section (14) is provided to the part of the antenna (1) in this way, the operability for the user is improved, because it is difficult for people other than the user to estimate that the operation applied to the tip (21) causes any operation to the mobile information terminal (10). Further, the user sets in advance a pattern for operating the tip (21) or periodically revises the pattern and sets the revised pattern, resulting in that even when the mobile information terminal (10) is operated by intention by people other than the user, the operation gives no effect on the operation of the mobile information terminal (10) so long as the pattern is other than the pattern set by the user.
