It is intended to provide functional polyamino acids or derivatives thereof with the use of microorganisms. More specifically speaking, a functional polyamino acid originating in a microorganism, in particular, a microorganism belonging to the genus Epichloe or its derivative; compositions containing the same; a process for producing the polyamino acid or its derivative; a microorganism producing the polyamino acid; and a process for producing a D-amino acid using a microorganism.
