PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem that washing water at a desired temperature cannot be used at an adequate flow rate at the initial stage of washing, because the washing water is cooled due to the radiation of heat of an instantaneous heat exchanger into the atmosphere at the start of the washing, in an sanitary washing apparatus using the heat exchanger. SOLUTION: This sanitary washing apparatus comprises: a supply channel for supplying the washing water; the instantaneous heat exchanger which communicates with the supply channel and heats the water, supplied from the supply channel, by means of an electric heater; a washing nozzle which communicates with the heat exchanger and emits a jet of the washing water, heated up to at a prescribed temperature by the heat exchanger; and a passage-of-electric-current control means for controlling the passage of an electric current to the electric heater. The passage-of-electric-current control means periodically passes the electric current through the electric heater, so that the water, which is supplied into the electric heater and the heat exchanger, can be heated up to the prescribed temperature before a user washes his/her private parts.
