PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver which detects an on-state of the receiver and automatically turns off the power with a simple arrangement even when the receiver is in a broadcasting time zone. SOLUTION: The television receiver for receiving a television broadcast signal and displaying a program of a desired channel includes means 6, 8 for detecting the fact that the receiver received a predetermined number of consecutive programs of an identical broadcast channel, and a means 11 for controlling turning off operation of the power.
