METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SPLICING OPTICAL FIBERS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for splicing optical fibers by which an optical fiber having many pores at a clad part like a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and another optical fiber are spliced in a state where their core positions are easily aligned. SOLUTION: Two PCFs 1 and 1 are fixed and held in holding members 21 so that their end faces 5 may face to each other. The end faces 5 are reflected on a mirror 22 and observed through a camera 24, and their images are processed by an image processing device 25 so that the core positions of both of them may be confirmed. By finely moving respective 1st driving parts 26 in accordance with the information of the core positions, the PCFs are adjusted so that the cores exist on the same axis. Then, the end faces 5 are made to approach and butted, and then melted and spliced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
