PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stably producible silver halide photographic sensitive material having high sensitivity and excellent in pressure resistance as well as in planarity. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic sensitive material contains a mercapto group containing polymer represented by the formula 1 wherein X is a group of a homo- or copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated bond-containing monomer having at least one of sulfonic acid group and phosphoric acid group; Y1and Y2are terminal groups of X; at least one of Y1and Y2is SH-Z-L1-; L1is a divalent linking group or a single bond; and Z is a nitrogen-containing aromatic ring.
