A variable displacement compressor, wherein a rotor is fixed to a drive shaft supported on a housing, a swash plate is slidably and tiltably supported on the drive shaft, a hinge mechanism formed between the rotor and the swash plate comprises two rotor side projections provided on the rotor and a projected part provided on the swash plate, the projected part is inserted between the opposed side faces of the two rotor side projections and allowed to abut on the plane surface of the side face of one rotor side projection to transmit a power between the rotor and the swash plate, and a recessed part is provided in the side face of the rotor side projection, whereby the area of the side face of the rotor side projection allowed to abut on the side face of the swash plate side projection can be reduced to smoothly change a delivery capacity while suppressing a machining cost.
