PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent article with a smooth surface and a smoothing treatment method therefor, which reduces irregularities of a surface of a plastic film base material or an article wherein a thin film is formed on the plastic film base material, and those of a surface of a glass base plate or an article wherein a thin film is formed on the glass base plate, and which enable a uniform gas-barrier layer with no pinhole to be formed on the plastic film material and the glass base plate. SOLUTION: In this smoothing treatment method, at least one side of the workpiece is subjected to smoothing treatment by: arranging a workpiece in an atmosphere including a reactive gas; adding electric energy or light energy to the workpiece; generating plasma; and changing an atom or a molecule constituting the workpiece into volatile matter. The workpiece is at least one of the base material itself, an article wherein the gas barrier layer is laminated on the base material, and an article wherein the gas barrier layer and a transparent conductive layer are laminated on the base material. The irregularities of the surface of the workpiece are reduced, and the article with enhanced surface smoothness is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
