PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for further reducing power while suppressing visual image quality deterioration. SOLUTION: Correlation is made between brightness adjustment of an LCD 13 and that of backlight 14. an average brightness degree Iave and a maximum brightness value I1max are obtained from display data, and brightness is adjusted on the basis of the converted brightness. When the brightness I is taken on the horizontal axis and the converted brightness is taken on the vertical axis I# in the brightness conversion, there is a relationship of r1≥r2>r3 among an inclination r1 of 0≤I < Iave, an average r2 of Iave≤I < I1max, and an average r3 of I≥I1max.
