Thermal overload protection device comprises: (a) a reversible switching bimetal protective element (2) having a first predetermined temperature characteristic line and arranged in electrical and thermal contact with a connecting contact of an electrical connector for at least one consumer; and (b) a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element (3) with a predetermined second temperature characteristic line and a predetermined heating power and arranged in thermal contact with the protective element so that the switching off time of the protective element is longer within a switching cycle.
