PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer composition for forming a polymer product improved in modulus and gas barrier properties without detriment to the tensile strength and elongation of the polymer and to provide a method for producing the composition. SOLUTION: The polymer composition is prepared by finely dispersing a phyllosilicate (e.g. bentonite) capable of being swollen with an aqueous medium in a polymer latex such as a natural rubber latex, coagulating and/or drying the polymer component in the mixture, and compounding the obtained polymer component with a vulcanizer/crosslinking agent, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
