PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technique for manufacturing an optical waveguide substrate which is decreased in loss of an optical signal by a simpler manufacture process. SOLUTION: A core 24 having specified shape, a lower layer clad 25, an upper layer clad 26 and a middle layer clad 27 are formed on a supporting substrate 20. Then, a notched part 32 equipped with a reflection surface 30 and a cut surface 31 is formed near the end of the core 24. Next, the notched part 32 is filled with a filler 33 constituted of material having a higher refractive index than that of the clad. Thereafter, an optical element 35 is mounted to cover over the notched part 32 on the surface of the clad 26. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
