PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display characters and patterns with high definition by suppressing color noise and change in the line thickness of characters/patterns, in accordance with light irradiation conditions for a display screen, without installing sensors around the display device. SOLUTION: In setting the color element level (luminance level) of sub-pixels corresponding to the basic part of characters and patterns and that of the nearby sub-pixels, the luminance level (compensation pattern) of all these sub-pixels is set in accordance with the on/off or the irradiation light quantity level of a display device irradiation means 50. If the irradiation light quantity for the display device 10 is small, the luminance level of the nearby sub-pixels is reduced, thereby thickening the line width of the characters/patterns and suppressing change in the line thickness in appearance.
