Field bus component for communication system

The component includes a data security layer (70, 72-76) for processing a field bus protocol, and a physical layer (60-64) which is formed for a high-speed data transmission. An interface (65), preferably a Medium Independent Interface, connects the data security layer and the physical layer, and a further layer (71) adjusts both layers. The data security layer comprises a medium access control layer (72), a base connection layer (73), a periphery data connection layer (74), and a network administration layer (76). An independent claim is provided for a communications system, especially an automation system, utilizing the field bus component, and for a corresponding data transmission method.
